TILL ADAM by artist Miriam Bäckström is based on an audio installation at the Royal Dramatic Theatre, produced by MAP, Mobile Art Production, the Stockholm Culture in cooperation with the National Property Board and the Royal Dramatic Theatre. Written and directed by Miriam Bäckström.

The audio artwork is a 54 min long script-based dialogue where we hear, or think we hear, the actors Margaretha Krook and Ernst-Hugo Järegård who meet to rehearse for a play. It is the first time they examines their lines together. The actors awaits the director’s arrival, but decided after a while to start on their own. The drama unfolds and roles emerge.

The text, Till Adam was portrayed by the actor and imitator Adam Fietz, in the Tower Room at the Royal Dramatic Theatre in Stockholm, in conjunction with the Culture Festival, 18-19 August 2007. In the audio artwork, we also follow Adam Fietz during the recording and hear his dialogues with Miriam Bäckström and sound technician Tina Paulson.

With the publication, Till Adam, Parallel Production in collaboration with Miriam Bäckström aims to process the basis of Miriam Bäckström’s past and present audio artwork and elaborate a previously script to literary form. The vision is to create duration of audio artwork, to create a memory for these events and to allow scripts to generate a further development of the project.

An audio artwork relates to the room, the presentation and the situation. What we want achieve with this publication is to transform this artwork from the form of an exhibition to the presentation of a book, and with that create new opportunities and conditions for the text.

It all starts with a script. Actors portray the script. Improvisations and tone come together and creates a piece of audio art. The audio art is then transcribed and developed into a literary form. The step to investigate and build an interpretation of the possibilities of the text, working with parallel layers, with regard to the characters’ backgrounds, ideas and movements, begins. Descriptions in terms of space and events during the compositions prevailing time during the exhibition, recording situation, the actor’s personal comments, added to the script frame are portrayed in a graphic design.

The book includes a recorded version of the audio installation. Literary text is based on a revised manuscript. Audio recording is included on the CD as a reference for the reader, a documentation of the artwork as a basis. The processed script takes the reader to the next level and creates a room in addition to the exhibition. Text and sound recordings  in Swedish.
